Commons in Action, real life case study (WIP)

I recently worked on using commons for a real online community. I know it's not the intended purpose (not social business) but it fit the bill perfectly. It's an online car enthusiast community. It is still in testing, not available, so screenshots show the functioning demo site. I'll do a full case study and review when it's done.

This is the dashboard overview.  I used homebox, there's not much going on right now, only two users and about 245 imported blog posts.

Here's an example blog post.

Facebook and twitter integration on the front page (and all posts)

The login uses openID selector and FBConnect

Oh, and there's a fully functoinal ubercart store for selling merch.

This is using a Fusion based custom theme. The only core modification I did was removing the dblog and site quant modules. We're using google analytics and prefer that for performance reasons.

Let me know what questions you'd have for a full case study and I'll post a link when the site is ready for Beta testing!

Very nice!  Great looking

Very nice!  Great looking theme.  Honestly, social networking might not be DC's direct intended purpose, but it's perfect for it, especially if they can drop in just a few more features.  It's exactly what we're working on and were hoping to utilize DC for.

Agreed, very nice! Ubercart question follows

Great work. I'm looking forward to the case study, it will help us all.

I have a quick question re Ubercart: how did you integrate it with Commons? Two separate installations? Subdomain installation of Ubercart? Many of us are trying to figure how to use more than one large custom module/feature/whatever you call it, together, so your experience will be very valued.

I'm curious about the Ubercart configuration as well.

openID selector issue

Hi jrowny, I'm using openID selector in my site as well, but in the loging block on the front page I have an issue with the icons, see http://drupal.org/node/1111976#comment-4327376

wastrilith2k suggested that this is caused by the theme, so I wonder if you had any issues?

I'm curious if this DC-based site was ever launched. klutchonline.com appears to be based on a standard Drupal install.

Engagement

Cool. I'm curious, what were some of the things you did to keep users engaged over time?
