Commons version 2.0-beta2 released

Terms:

As the title indicates, Beta2 has been released and is available for download. (You can also clone it from github.)  There's lots of new stuff in it, but little new functionality; just lots of cleanup, bug fixes, etc.  See the release notes for a description of what's changed.

This is a recommended update for those running Beta1.

Commons version 2.0-beta1 released

Today we released Commons version 2.0-beta1. This release was previewed in a screencast mid-June, and now has reached Beta. Commons 2.0 is numbered as a major release for several reasons, the primary driver being that it introduces a significant change in the user experience.

Commons 2.0 preview: Status Wall (screencast)

Hey, all -

We're here working away at adding Status Wall capabilities to Commons; but since it's still under active development it's not quite ready for people to try out yet.

But still, we wanted to let people see what we're working on, so here's a screencast.  Enjoy!

Commons 2.0 announcement backgrounder

Hey all -

As you probably heard, we (Acquia) announced two things this week: Release 2.0, and renaming Drupal Commons to (just) Commons.

Since many in the Commons community don't come from the software industry, I thought it might be educational to explain to everybody how we approached this - because it's much different than the "normal" open source approach.

Commons version 1.7 released (security update)

Terms:

In response to the security advisory posted on drupal.org regarding sites that use the CKeditor library (which is used by Commons), we have packaged Commons version 1.7, which includes an update of the CKeditor (third-party) library and the wysiwyg module.  We also included a performance-driven patch to organic groups, and some fixes to some minor theme issues.

As this is a security-related release, it is best if you promptly update your site.

Commons.acquia.com upgraded to release 1.6

For those who are interested, this site was upgraded to the latest release of Drupal Commons today.  Hopefully the changes will be easy to take advantage of, and simple to understand.

If you see any issues, you're welcome to note them here in a comment.

Enjoy!

Drupal Commons version 1.6 released (26 May 2011)

Terms:

As the title says, Drupal Commons version 1.6 was released late last night.

Full details on the release can be found in my blog post on acquia.com.

A reminder of how we want to handle issues & questions:

New -dev release available (2011 April 18)

Terms:

There's a new Commons release available; it's what's known in the Drupal world as a "-dev" release.  In our case, it means that it's got a lot of new stuff in it that's pretty well locked down, but:

Group name changed

It seems to me that we're overloading the Commons Q&A group. There's a ton of discussions going on there that have to do with what we want to / should do for feature XYZ. My original purpose for that group was to be a place where new Commons users could come ask questions about how to use Commons, what it's for, etc.

I think we need a separate group to have development conversations - the same way we have one for Usability & Design.
