Long usernames get cut off in the Shout box. Here is an example from the Commons project information Shout box:
Tested on Snow Leopard on Firefox 3.6.9 and Safari 5.0.1.

Yeah, we worried about that.
I remember discussing this with TNT during theming of the Shoutbox. We found the issue because Devel generate generated some long usernames; and these caused the content area of the Shoutbox to get really narrow, and really ugly.
So the tradeoff was to lock down the width of the name area, and live with this problem. At least, that was the solution at the time.
This is worth playing with if others have different solutions. RSVP here if you find one you like.
