Limiting

This poll seems a bit limiting and I suspect, depending on people's definitions, a lot of folks will end up in the "other" category.  For example, our site is a social networking site for a local hobby/interest group.   Perhaps another category for Social Community?

Agree with Icarus

I agree with Icarus. I voted "other" and if a text box were available to better describe what I meant by "other", I would have entered "Social Community".

Multiple efforts

It's an interesting questions, but many of us may be working on more than one type of site...

Good points!

This is a just first step to get a better understanding of how everyone is using Commons.  After this inital poll, I will try a second one with either additional options or a place for entering additional detail in a text field, etc.  Thanks for voting!

Can you describe your types further?

Think it would help if you described what you meant by each type of community and gave 'classic examples'.  I'm really not sure whether what we're building is a 'Customer Community'?  I would describe it as a publicly accessible hybrid online magazine/community site - it's a bit like a blend of OpenPublish and Commons!

Excellent Point

Fact is, if DC continues to develop in a direction that allows for it, I have at least three other sites it might work well for.  All three would be commercial ventures that would lend themselves to Acquia subscriptions. Only one of the three fit under the categories above.

I hate being lumped in with

I hate being lumped in with "other." ;) I would like to see Open Commons work as a news site - many of the elements already exist.

Agree abot the 'other'

Agree about the 'other' comments.

Never have an 'other' option in a poll - it means the poll is not focused enough. :)

Polls only work when all answers are predicted. Otherwise you need a new poll.................

Poll is essentialy a way to

Other option in this case is appropriate for number of choices could be infinite and that would make poll even less focused. It did exactly what it needed to do, that is, engage user and provide basis for further discussion. Ultimately, it got people to talk and debate which is good thing

we are building a DC site for

we are building a DC site for the volunteer site for a large NGO, so I voted other :)

Triathlon Group

We are looking at DC for a local triathlon group. Selected other but I suspect the previously mentioned Social Club may be a fit.

Any way to alter options after the poll has gone live?
